ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Rural Immersion Program is hosting 20 health professionals to teach students in northwest Missouri.

The program aims to give students in health programs, like medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and more, an opportunity to see rural communities.

The program would also give students a better chance to understand the challenges and unique situations that come with rural healthcare.

The program is hosted by the MU Extension's Northwest Region, in partnership with the Rural Scholars Program, MAHEC, MU School of Medicine and Department of Senior Services.

A four-day-long immersion experience is coming to northwest Missouri, Monday, June 22, through Thursday, June 25.

Activities will take place throughout Grundy, Mercer, Harrison, Gentry and Nodaway counties.

Students are introduced to a rural healthcare system with community, collaboration and workforce opportunities.
