73rd annual St. Joseph Invitational kicks off at St. Joseph Country Club
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The 73rd annual St. Joseph Country Club Invitational one of the biggest member based tournaments of the year for the course began on Friday, June 12th.
The invite consisted of close to 80 teams consisting of local golfers from St. Joseph and Kansas City. Golfers like MoWest head golf coach Matt Thrasher, assistant golf coach Brad Nurski, the Bishop Leblond alum Johnston brothers Tim and Patrick and the Jungbluth brothers of Brooks and Davis were just some of the golfers in attendance.
'The tournament kicked off Friday and will continue all day Saturday, June 13th with a conclusion of a 3-hole playoff called the Battle of the Blacksnake Saturday evening.
Tournament director John Proper says this event has been one of the most looked forward to events all year for their members.
"At the end of the day, we want to give a member experience that is memorable, that's so much fun," said Proper. "It really is about a community and a neighborhood here in the Country Club, and we're thrilled to be able to take care of the members. As well as really put on a great show."
Next year going forward, the tournament will now be called Humphrey's Horse Race, named after former member Guy Humphreys who passed away. The Humphreys family hosts a horse race party at his house on the course every year and they will continue that in his honor.
