St. Joseph Police Department engages in hours-long standoff at apartment complex

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Police Department and multiple law enforcement agencies engaged in an hours-long standoff at Cottonwood Creek Apartments on Saturday.

According to the St. Joseph Police Department, officers received a call about an alleged domestic disturbance in one of the buildings, with the incident escalating into a standoff as police attempted to secure an individual.

According to neighbors, police presence was established as early as 1 PM and continued until approximately 8:45 PM.

An armored vehicle was present at the scene, with officers attempting to negotiate and bring the individual out.

The situation ultimately led to officers breaking a window and entering the building.

Multiple accounts indicate that the individual escaped during the standoff.

However, the St. Joseph Police Department has neither confirmed nor denied those reports.

Police did say there is no current threat to the public and the situation was contained.
