Tracking cooler temps & rain chances into Thursday

Abigail McCluskey

Good morning, and happy Wednesday! Temperatures are starting off in the upper 50s to lower 60s this morning, but much cooler conditions are expected today, with highs only reaching the mid- to upper 60s. Scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm are possible throughout the day, with rain chances increasing later this afternoon and evening.

Widespread showers and a few embedded thunderstorms are expected to develop tonight and continue into Thursday morning. Locally heavy rainfall is possible, especially across southern portions of the area, where an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain could fall. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Thursday afternoon for Linn County in Kansas and Bates and Henry counties in Missouri.

Temperatures will rebound Thursday, with highs climbing into the mid-70s as a warm front moves through the region. However, a cold front will move through Thursday afternoon and evening, bringing gusty northwest winds and a return to cooler conditions. Rain chances will decrease as the system moves out late Thursday.

Much cooler weather settles in Friday, with highs only reaching the mid- to upper 50s. Temperatures will drop into the mid- to upper 30s early Saturday morning, bringing the potential for patchy frost, especially across northern Missouri.

The weekend will bring a return to more pleasant fall weather, with mostly clear skies, lighter winds and highs in the low to mid-60s Saturday. Warmer temperatures return Sunday and continue into early next week, with highs climbing back into the low to mid-70s by Monday.
