Get to know: Jeremy Clevenger, Republican Primary Candidate for Missouri Representative District 7

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Jeremy Clevenger is a proud accountant, Scout Club leader, husband, father and wants to be the next Missouri Representative for District 7.

Clevenger saw inspiration to run through different conversations and experiences during his time as an accountant and local leader.

"As a CPA, I get to see; I have a window into a lot of different business operations, into people's farms, and just their lives in total," Clevenger said. "We talk about kids' sports and school and all kinds of things with my clients. You could feel the frustration mounting through the Biden presidency."

He continued, "Somebody with my experience, I think, is perfect for the hour we're in, with a reduction in federal funding to the state. So that's one of the big opportunities I have to tackle—how are we going to work our budget out with fewer federal dollars?"

If elected to Jefferson City, Clevenger wants to uphold conservative values, defend the First and Second Amendments in Missouri, and support family businesses and farms. He also wants to reduce what he calls wasteful government spending, keep taxes low, and expand access to trade schools in the state.

"State government is going to have to take a bigger role in each one of these programs that are critical infrastructure, broadband access, things like that. Core government services are going to have to be maintained without as much federal money, and I see that coming," Clevenger shared. "I see it coming in the audit clients that I have—that tap is being turned off. So we're going to have to look back into history on what state government has been responsible for, the programs they've covered, and make sure core services are funded."
