St. Joseph Mustangs baseball team edges KC Monarchs at home

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The St. Joseph Mustangs baseball team fought off a pesky KC Monarchs team Thursday night and won 9-8.

St. Joseph was down 3-0 after the top of the 2nd, but then scored 7 unanswered runs over the next three innings. The Monarchs then fought back and tied the game at 7 in the 8th but RBIs from Carson Schrack and Tyler Gundlefinger in the bottom of the frame sealed the win for St. Joseph.

Schrack finished 4-for-5 with 4 RBI for the Mustangs, Gundlefinger finished 3-for-5 with 1 RBI and Benton alum Chris Coy finished 2-for-5 with 1 RBI.

The Mustangs improve to 24-14 on the season and next host the Clarinda A's Friday, July 24th at 7 pm.
