Chiefs hold first official Training Camp practice of 2026 in St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs officially kicked off their 2026 training camp on Wednesday on MoWest's campus in St. Joseph. The full team was in attendance, including all of the veterans. Just the season ticket holders were allowed to attend camp Wednesday morning.
Familiar faces back at Chiefs camp on Wednesday, veterans like Chris Jones, George Karloftis, Xavier Worthy, Creed Humphrey, and of course, now newly married Travis Kelce all showing up and reporting to camp. One new veteran added to the offense this season is reigning Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III going through his first day of Chiefs training camp. Along with trying to bring his winning experience and mentality and return that to this Kansas City team that's also experienced those same winning feelings just a few seasons ago.
"They want to win, and they've won many Super Bowls before. You definitely see the work ethic that's going on around here," said Walker III. "Everybody wants to compete and win, we'll go out there and see how we play this season. I've already heard the things about how hard (this camp) will be, how hot it'll be out here. But I feel like that's going to get us ready for the season and the games."
Another veteran back this season is linebacker and Mizzou Tiger alum Nick Bolton. Bolton heads into his 6th season with the Chiefs, and he's liking all the experience this Kansas City Chiefs defense has on the roster this year.
"I like having a group of guys that kind of come in every single day put their best foot forward, helping the young guys out," said Bolton. "We have some veteran guys like (L'Jarius) Snead, Chris (jones), Drew (Tranquill), Alohi (Gilman) as well. Just having some guys that have been there helps me out along the way relaying information. "Obviously we're just laying the groundwork right now trying to lay the foundation and give us a chance to compete."
A new face in the secondary for the Chiefs this fall is safety Alohi Gilman. Gilman, who is entering his 7th season in the NFL, is one of the oldest members in the back end of the defense on this squad. That's brought up some funny differences for him when trying to relate to the younger players.
"They're all NIL babies, most of them. I didn't have the NIL. I was living off of FASFA checks and I thought I was rich still," said Gilman. "So I would talk about that and they're like, dang, FAFSA, what is that? So like just stuff like that, so you know they're all NIL babies. They got a whole bunch of money. I was trying to buy a burger from Five Guys."
Head coach Andy Reid gave no timetable for offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy's return, but mentioned the team's accelerated mindset at practice in his absence.
"Eric's a big part of this. I love having him here, but right now it's important that he takes care of business and everybody here knows that," said Reid. "So everybody's game has picked up and they're working hard. Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and do his thing."
The rest of the general public will be allowed to start attending Chiefs camp on Thursday, July 30th.
