St. Joseph woman arrested, charged for alleged aid in Frog Hop and Mason Avenue shooting
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A St. Joseph woman was arrested and charged for her alleged role in shootings on Monday, July 27.
Jasadies Lynn Clayton, 21, of St. Joseph, is charged with aiding and abetting a person discharging/shooting a firearm at or from a motor vehicle.
According to a probable cause statement, at 4:07 a.m. on Monday, July 27, the St. Joseph Police Department responded to a shooting at the 2000 block of Messanie Street, near Frog Hop.
A man was struck by gunfire in his torso and transported to the hospital with serious injuries. A resident was also shot, and multiple shell casings were recovered in the roadway.
Video surveillance of the area confirmed the suspect vehicle was a white 2019 Buick Encore, determined to be registered by Clayton.
Clayton's boyfriend, Devon Banks, was a passenger in the vehicle during the incident.
Police used the video from surrounding sources to track the vehicle as it traveled directly back to the 1000 block of Charles Street, Banks' residence, following the shooting.
Clayton was seen on video driving the Buick around 12:15 a.m. immediately following another shooting involving her vehicle on Mason Avenue.
Video also showed Clayton driving the same white Buick Encore used in the shooting about 40 minutes after the Messanie Street shooting, when she returned to the scene and was contacted by police.
Police arrested Clayton on Friday, July 31, driving the same Buick used in both shootings.
In a mirandized statement, Clayton confirmed she'd been driving the Buick when her boyfriend, Banks, fired at least five shots out the passenger window as they passed through the 2000 block of Messanie Street.
According to the probable cause statement, Clayton did not stop or contact police. Shortly after, she learned that a subject had been struck during the shooting.
Clayton confirmed she had been driving her vehicle about four hours before the shooting when Banks fired his gun out the window and struck a residence numerous times.
Banks also confirmed Clayton as the driver in both shootings.
Clayton was arrested with a $10,000 bond and has an initial court appearance at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Buchanan County Courthouse with Honorable Judge Rebecca Spencer.
