Platte County to roll out Homestead Property Tax Credit
PLATTE COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- Residents are encouraged to check their eligibility for a property tax credit that could help lower Homestead Property taxes.
In a measure approved by voters in the April 7, 2026 election, Platte County will now grant a credit eligible to taxpayers.
Voters approved the proposal with 79.4% voting "yes" and 20.6% voting "no".
A "homestead" property is real property occupied by the eligible taxpayer as their primary residence, including the property within the parcel location. Taxpayers may claim only one primary residence.
Platte County is currently designated as a 5% county under a Missouri Statute, where the real property tax liability on an eligible taxpayer's homestead may be increased by no more than 5% per year, or the percent increase on the Consumer Price Index as published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, whichever is greater.
While no applications are required for the 2026 tax year, county staff made an initial determination of eligible taxpayers and homesteads using available data, including mailing and property addresses, parcel classification, owner type (LLC and corporate ownership), short-term rental status, Senior Tax Credit status and more.
Taxpayers can check a full list of eligible parcels, compiled and mapped with an address search function, by visiting www.co.platte.mo.us/homestead.
Any Platte County taxpayer can appeal the determination of their eligibility to the Platte County Commission. Appeals must be submitted online and received before Sept. 11, 2026.
Taxpayers can also withdraw their homestead eligibility by submitting a written, signed notice to the Platte County Commission.
Residents who were automatically enrolled in the program but would like to be excluded can email their parcel ID number, name and address to homestead@co.platte.mo.us.
Platte County will apply the credit when calculating the eligible taxpayer’s property tax liability for the tax year. The amount of the credit will be noted on the county collector's statement of tax due.
For complete details, the full text of the Commission order, the list of eligible parcels and additional guidance, taxpayers can visit www.co.platte.mo.us/homestead.
