File

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A St. Joseph woman made her initial appearance in a Buchanan County court for stabbing her neighbor at Museum Hill Apartments Sunday.

Jabreon L. Johnson was arrested Sunday after she assaulted a woman by stabbing her with a box cutter, causing significant injuries to the woman's face and neck.

Johnson made her first appearance in front of Buchanan County Judge Rebecca Spencer at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday.

According to a probable cause statement, officers responded to the Museum Hill Apartment complex after reports of stabbing.

In addition, witnesses also confirmed Johnson as being a suspect and provided her apartment number. Witnesses also described seeing Johnson on top of the victim in the hallway and a box cutter being used during the assault.

According to the statement, officers established a perimeter with several attempts to make contact with Johnson inside her apartment.

Eventually, Johnson exited her apartment and began walking away from officers who were ordering her to stop. A taser was deployed and Johnson was taken into custody.

Officers also obtained and executed a search warrant on Johnson's apartment and found a gray box cutter, which had been washed with water in an attempt to clean it. Detectives located blood and tissue on the interior of the knife.

Johnson faces 1st Degree Assault/Attempted Assault charges. As of now, the court is considering the incident a Class B Felony, which is eligible for five to 15 years in prison.

Johnson has a Preliminary Hearing scheduled with Judge Spencer at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 20.
