Chiefs hold last full padded Training Camp practice of 2026 in St. Joseph
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs held their second to last Training Camp practice of 2026 on Wednesday, and the final day of full pads.
Jason Kelce himself was at Chiefs' practice Wednesday supporting his younger brother Travis, along with former head coach Andy Reid. Speaking of offensive players, 5th round rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen continues to impress at camp with another jaw-dropping catch with first-round pick Mansoor Delane in coverage. Here's what new wide receivers coach Chad O'Shea had to say about Allen's improvement in camp.
"Cyrus has come in and he's taken the coaching, and he's done a great job of working extremely hard and trying to concentrate on the things that we've asked him to do," said O'Shea. "There's so much detail and small things that go into being successful as a receiver in this league. He has certainly tried to do the things we're asking him to do. I believe time on task, he'll just continue to get better."
Another first-year assistant coach on the Chiefs coaching staff this year is running backs coach DeMarco Murray. The former first-team All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowler knows a great running back when he sees one, and that's what excites him so much about offseason acquisition, Kenneth Walker.
"He's an unbelievable player, really good leader for us. There's not a lot of times where you got to yell at him about effort. There's just a couple of things that he needs to clean up with eyes, pad level, but a guy that's as polished as Ken is, you just want to add a couple more tools to his tool belt," said Murray. "He's very receptive of that, man. That's the kind of player that he is. He comes out every single day. He wants to get better. He doesn't mind the hard coaching, but again, his biggest critic is himself."
On the other side of the ball, defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo was seen doing a one on one practice session with veteran cornerback L'Jarius Snead, who's recovering from a quad injury from last season and beginning his second stint with the Chiefs.
"I got all the confidence in the world in LJ. I kind of know what he can do. He stays on top of it from a mental standpoint really, really well, and he's a good example for these young guys on how to prepare," said Spagnuolo. "So we'll keep him on that trajectory. I don't anticipate that he'll play in this game, but we'll see going forward."
The Chiefs will have their final day of Training Camp on Thursday, August 20th at 8:15 am for Military Appreciation Day. KC will then pack up and head to Florida to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for week 2 of the Preseason on Saturday, August 22nd at 6:30 pm.
