Kansas City Chiefs wrap up final day of Training Camp in St. Joseph

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) - The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped up its 16th straight Training Camp on MoWest's Camp[us in St. Joseph Thursday morning.

A bittersweet day for the Chiefs. As the team finishes camp and head back to their families in Kansas City with the regular season fast approaching, head coach Andy Reid made sure to give thanks to the MoWest staff, along with giving an update on Preseason game number two.

"We appreciate the people here at Missouri Western State University in St. Joe. They took great care of us. Everything from food to making our beds to cleaning our rooms. That can be a chore I know with some of my guys, but they do a great job of helping us out and we appreciate their hospitality," said Reid. With that, the quarterbacks that will play this week, we'll go a quarter and a half with Justin (Fields), a quarter and a half with Garrett (Nussmeier), and Chris (Oladokun) will take the 4th quarter. They'll be somewhere in that area. Don't hold me to the play on that, but going in, that's a rough itinerary."

As the Chiefs reflect back on this year's training camp. They feel pleased about the team's growth throughout these past few weeks in St. Joseph.

"From the time you wake up, to the time you go to bed, that's just football. So I enjoy it. I think the guys enjoy it," said linebacker Nick Bolton, who completed his sixth Training Camp with KC. "This camp probably felt longer. It's been different for me in terms of the amount of padded practice days and the duration of the days we were here. But I think it's a great foundation, kind of helped me push myself, mentally and physically, so I think I'll probably carry that throughout the season."

"They worked hard and I appreciated that. I thought we made progress. It's the young guys that you're really looking at here, we have a number of them. How they've progressed and continue to progress will be a big part of how this team does," said Reid, who just finished his 13th Training Camp with the Chiefs. I appreciate the way they went about their business. You have examples like (Travis) Kelce, oldest guy on the team and came out every day and worked to where we had to yank him out of there to give him a breather. Then Pat (Mahomes) doing what he did with his knee and didn't miss a day. Chris Jones, (Nick) Bolton, you have leadership like that, that's important. The guys I thought followed right along with them."

Andy Reid also spoke about getting to attend the St. Joseph Goats Arena League Championship game earlier in the month, a nice little break for one night after the dog days at camp.

"It was fun to watch. Steve Craig, I know is a big part of this community and he takes a lot of pride in that team. I loved the show. It was great," said Reid. "Congratulations to them for winning the championship. It doesn't matter what level you're at, it's a championship and they were the best at what they did. My hat goes off to them. It was fun."

The Chiefs now prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Florida for week two of the Preseason on Saturday, August 22nd at 6:30 pm on KQTV.
