Tracking a foggy Wednesday morning and the return of heat

Dense fog is creating major visibility issues across St. Joseph and parts of Northwest Missouri Wednesday morning.

Visibility has dropped to near zero in some locations, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory for Buchanan County and surrounding areas, including parts of northeastern Kansas and far northwestern Missouri. The advisory is in effect through 9 a.m.

Drivers should slow down, increase following distance and use low-beam headlights while traveling through areas of dense fog. Visibility is expected to remain reduced through the morning.

Temperatures are starting in the upper 60s to 70s, warmer than Tuesday morning. High humidity is making conditions feel slightly sticky, while light winds behind a cold front are helping the fog develop.

Fog and low clouds will gradually improve through the morning. By lunchtime, clouds will begin to clear, allowing temperatures to climb into the low to middle 80s. Highs will reach the middle to upper 80s Wednesday under mostly sunny skies.

Wednesday will be warm and humid, with a high near 86 degrees. Residents should stay hydrated and use caution in the afternoon heat.

A few sprinkles are possible early Wednesday, but most of the area will remain dry. The forecast stays relatively quiet through Thursday, with another warm day expected.

Temperatures will cool slightly into the low to middle 80s Thursday before climbing back into the upper 80s and potentially reaching the 90s this weekend and early next week.

Rain chances will increase again this weekend as another system moves into the region.
