Staley bests Central in season opener Friday night

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- In a rematch from last year's Class 6 District 8 tournament, the Staley Falcons bested Central to open the regular season.

Staley defeated Central, 31-12, Friday night at Noyes Field.

Just before the end of the first half and leading 14-6, Staley tacked on a field goal to make it a two-possession game at the half, 17-6.

In the third quarter, Staley scored again to take a 24-6 lead. The Indians fought back with a touchdown of their own on a Christian Richey run to make it 24-12.

Staley added a fourth-quarter touchdown to put the game out of reach and win, 31-12.

Staley improves to 1-0 and Central falls to 0-1.

Central will travel to Benton (1-0) next Friday night in Week 2.
