Additional charges brought against one of the alleged shooters from Chiefs Super Bowl Parade

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced that a grand jury approved a new official charging document that replaces an earlier indictment against one of the alleged shooters from the 2024 Chiefs Super Bowl Parade.

25-year-old Lyndell Mays was originally charged in 2024 with 2nd degree felony murder, two counts of armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon. The superseding indictment agreed to on August 28 keeps each of those charges in place and adds seven counts of 2nd degree assault and seven counts of 1st degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Each endangering count is a Class B felony, carrying five to 15 years in prison. Each of the assault counts is a Class D felony, carrying one to seven years.

“We remain committed to pursuing justice for every person harmed that day, including Lisa Lopez-Galvan, whose life was taken,” Prosecutor Johnson said. “All victims and their families are at the center of our work, and we’re committed to holding Mr. Mays accountable.”
