Tracking late season extreme heat

Abigail McCluskey

Dangerous heat will continue across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through at least Tuesday.

Highs Friday and Saturday will reach the mid-90s to near 100 degrees, with heat index values as high as 105. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday due to the prolonged heat and warm overnight temperatures.

Temperatures may ease slightly Sunday and Monday, especially across northern Missouri, but areas south of the St. Joseph-to-Boonville line will remain in the upper 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees.

The heat builds again Tuesday, with highs once again near 100 and heat index values up to 105.

There is a chance for a cold front and storms late next week, but forecast confidence remains low on when — or if — meaningful relief arrives.
