Tracking intense heat and isolated t-storm chances

High intensity heat will prevail across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas through Labor Day weekend, with a chance for isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms potentially offering short-term relief at times, mainly on Sunday. 

An Excessive Heat Warning remains in place area-wide for the next 24 to 48 hours. Temperatures in the upper 90s and heat index values between 100 and 106 degrees will lead to an increased risk for heat related illness. Make sure to drink plenty of water, and seek air conditioned spaces whenever possible.

Mostly sunny skies and upper 90s Saturday afternoon will give way to a warm and mainly dry evening with a 10% chance of stray t-showers early. Overnight lows will fall into the mid to upper 70s. Sunday will bring periods of extra cloud coverage and a 30% to 40% chance of spotty showers and thunderstorms. Despite rain chances and a few extra clouds, afternoon highs will still rise into the low to mid 90s along with triple digit heat indices.
