Tracking a hot Labor Day with sunshine

Good morning and happy Labor Day!

Temperatures are back in the low 70s this morning after storms moved through overnight. Conditions are drying out this morning, with a few additional rain chances possible across far northeastern Missouri throughout the day.

Skies will gradually clear today, allowing temperatures to warm back into the low 90s. While it will still be hot, temperatures will be slightly cooler today compared with the heat we've experienced over the last several days. Heat index values are still expected to approach 100 degrees.

Most of the heat alerts have expired, but a few counties south of U.S. 36 remain under an Extreme Heat Warning through Tuesday evening.

Heat returns across all of Northwest Missouri Tuesday, with temperatures climbing back into the upper 90s and heat index values near 105 degrees.

Rain chances return late Tuesday night and continue throughout the day Wednesday, bringing the potential for much-needed measurable rainfall. The rain will also help temperatures drop back into the low to middle 80s through Friday.

Temperatures will climb back into the upper 80s through the weekend, with scattered rain chances returning toward the latter half of the workweek.

Overall, temperatures are expected to remain closer to seasonal averages after Tuesday.
