SJSD’s community, staff facility committees meet for first time Tuesday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph School District has launched its 2026 facilities planning process, gathering input from staff and community members on the district's long-range strategy.

Two committees met separately Tuesday evening with DLR Group Inc., the consulting firm hired for the district's long-range facilities planning process. The staff facilities planning committee includes 25 district employees, while the community committee is 27 members of the community.

The meetings aimed to identify priorities and gather feedback from those involved.

Lindbergh Elementary Assistant Principal Kaleb Johnson said his varied experience across the district gives him a unique perspective.

"I've served in many different roles throughout the district, so I think that offers a unique lens," Johnson said. "Some of us are just familiar with our own space, but just knowing district-wide what all of our needs are will really guide those conversations."

The district has scheduled seven additional meetings in October and November:

October:

  • Oct. 6: Staff facility meeting to discuss scenario planning
  • Oct. 6: Community facility meeting to discuss scenario planning
  • Oct. 12: Board of Education meeting for updates and initial planning
  • Oct. 27: Student meeting for feedback on initial plan

November:

  • Nov. 3: Community meeting to discuss Board of Education feedback
  • Nov. 9: Board of Education meeting to update and review plan
  • Nov. 23: Board of Education meeting to finalize plan

Stay tuned to KQ2 News as we will provide any updates on the long range facilities plan as they become available.
