St. Joseph man shot in groin after allegedly attempting to burglarize home

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A St. Joseph, Missouri, man is behind bars after he was shot in the groin for allegedly attempting to burglarize a home early Sunday morning.

According to a probable cause statement, Thomas D. Davis, 44, unlawfully entered a home around 2:49 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 along the 3300 block of Scott St. in northwest Buchanan County.

While inside the residence, Davis allegedly stole items from the counter. As he was exiting, he was confronted by the homeowner.

During the exchange, the victim believed Davis was armed with a firearm and had fired one round himself, striking Davis in the groin.

Davis fled the home and was later located in a nearby alley. He was transported to Mosaic for medical treatment and was released into police custody.

The victim identified Davis as the person who entered his residence.

Davis told authorities, due to his use of Xanax, he had no recollection of entering the home.

Davis faces second-degree burglar charges. He is set to appear in front of Honorable Judge Rebecca Spencer at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for his initial court appearance.
