Rosendale man charged with making obscene or indecent commercial messages

File

ANDREW COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A Rosendale, Missouri, man faces two counts of making obscene or indecent commercial messages, according to a probable cause statement filed in Andrew County Circuit Court.

Investigators allege Steve O. McDermit used a TextNow number to leave four messages on a commercial sex-chatline app on Oct. 14. The statement said two messages were left at 12:54 a.m. and two more at 2:58 a.m. The messages allegedly described sexual acts involving two girls, ages 6 months and 1 year.

The statement said records obtained from TextNow and Google linked the number to McDermit. It also alleged he is a law enforcement officer in northwest Missouri with access to firearms, equipment and law enforcement information systems.

As of 4:30 p.m. Oct. 16, McDermit was in Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office custody. He was booked Oct. 15, according to the information provided.
