ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- After failing its initial fire and sanitation inspections, members of the Bartlett Center knew they had some work to do to get the building ready.

Angela Cruse, childcare director at the Bartlett Center, turned to Facebook to ask the community for help, and people quickly stepped up.

“We had an outpour of the community just helping everybody out. I mean, even if it was just giving their time here or monetary donations or even just sending supplies,” she said.

The YMCA applied for a temporary license on Sept. 25. The following week, the facility underwent a fire inspection but did not pass.

A sanitation inspection the next day brought the same result, leaving the team with more work to do before the center could open.
