Missouri voters utilize mail-in ballots, early voting methods

KQ2

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Early voting is still underway, and Missouri voters are utilizing mail-in ballots and early voting methods.

Mail-in voting has become increasingly popular in recent years, and voters in Missouri are already casting their ballots.

According to Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey, mail-in ballots account for roughly 10% of Buchanan County's total votes.

In August's primary election, roughly 9,016 voters out of 54,312 registered voters showed up to the polls.

That leaves about 900 mail-in ballots if the numbers remain the same this general election.

However, other factors impact mail-in ballots, such as no-excuse absentee voting and a possible higher voter turnout.

"The mail-in, it's probably 10%," Baack-Garvey said. "But now we have the in-person voting going on, the no-excuse absentee, which means anybody and everybody can come in and vote before the election. And that has really picked up. We've had at least 200 voters a day since Tuesday, so that is going to boost it, probably 30% of them. A lot of people are knocking their ballots out now instead of going on Election Day."
