Saint Joseph Symphony presents ‘Women’s March’ concert
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A Saint Joseph Symphony concert will celebrate the artistic achievements, leadership and creative voices of women in classical music.
The Symphony's "Women's March" concert will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 28 at the Missouri Theater.
The concert will spotlight powerful orchestral works that reflect resilience, brilliance and the enduring influence of women in classical music.
The event's repertoire will feature music by historic, groundbreaking composers, Louise Farrenc and Marianna Martines, as well as contemporary composers, including Florence Price and Jessie Montgomery.
The concert is sponsored by Dr. Helyn Strickland.
"The Women's March concert is both a musical celebration and a meaningful statement," said Nancy Brunson, the executive director of the Saint Joseph Symphony. "Women's voices in classical music were largely ignored in the concert hall until the last several decades. We are proud to present a program during Women's History Month that uplifts lesser-known extraordinary composers and reflects our ongoing commitment to musical awareness, education and artistic excellence."
Brunson said the concert's works have never been performed on the Missouri Theater stage, and will honor the strength and spirit of women in classical music from the 18th century to the present day.
The promotion surrounding the Women's March concert will also recognize local women-owned businesses and community leaders.
Women entrepreneurs in the area will be invited to participate in social media promotional partnerships, reinforcing the Symphony's dedication to empowering women both on and off the stage.
The Symphony will also highlight female contributions and figures in the history of St. Joseph and its talented female principal musicians throughout the month of March.
Audiences can expect a program filled with passion, beauty and inspirational music aimed to move hearts and celebrate progress.
"We are particularly hoping that the women of St. Joe will show their support of this concert and join us in an unforgettable celebration of music, leadership and the powerful voices of women," said Brunson.
