Habitat for Humanity opens new home on East Highland Avenue

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- St. Joseph's Habitat for Humanity opened its 86th home Wednesday afternoon.

The Christian ministry organization welcomed Angela Philip and her family into the home.

Philip was eligible to become a Habitat Homeowner by completing the necessary requirements, as well as finishing 500 volunteer hours with the organization.

"It means the world to me to give my family a safe place to live," Philip said. "My dream became a reality today, and I couldn't be happier for my family."

Several friends and family members were at the ribbon-cutting ceremony, including Habitat for Humanity's Executive Director, Tim Osborn.

"She's worked very hard to get to this spot," Osborn said. "She's been in our program for three years doing volunteer work, working on her home, working on other homes to get her volunteer hours to make this happen."

Habitat for Humanity has plans to put more homes on the property in the near future.

"We will put seven homes on the property, but we've got two under construction right now," Osborn said. "They will go on the market sometime, probably July."

Habitat for Humanity looks forward to keeping Angela as a part of its family, as it continues to expand its neighborhood.
