ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Freudenthal Center for Parkinson's Disease is set to host its annual Tulip Trot on Saturday, April 18.

The event will be a 5K run and 1K walk for all who sign up, and will be held at the Remington Nature Center.

All proceeds collected from the event will go towards the Freudenthal Center to help them continue providing an outlet for citizens in and around St. Joseph affected by Parkinson's Disease.

"People who have Parkinson's need to exercise at least 150 minutes a week," said Garrett Patterson, Freudenthal Center's managing officer. "We have something every day for them to be involved in to keep their movement going."

Those who are volunteering to host the event are expecting and hoping for a turnout similar to those in years past.

"We would love to say that we can raise $10,000 or more," Patterson said. "In years past, we have had anywhere between 150 to 250 people that have signed up to either run or walk."

Freudenthal Center for Parkinson's Disease primarily hosts boxing and cycling classes at their location at East Hills Mall.

Among those who attend the classes is Pastor Robert Flach.

"One of the ladies that goes to my church pointed it out," Flach said. "So we came out and found out this is what it is. And I thought this is the best-kept secret in St. Joe."

The Tulip Trot will begin at 10 a.m. on April 18. Those who register before April 2 will receive a free event T-shirt.
