Saint Joseph Symphony holds Women’s March concert

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Saint Joseph Symphony is presenting "Women's March" this Saturday night at the Missouri Theater.

The concert is being put on during Women's History Month, to honor several women across several generations of classical music.

The event is set to feature several pieces of classical music, all made famous by women composers.

Pieces of music that will be performed include Sinfonia in C Major by Marianna Martines, Starburst by Jessie Montgomery, Adoration by Florence Price and Symphony No. 1 in C Minor, Op. 32 by Louise Farrenc.

"We feel that it's really kind of our 'duty', so to speak, to make sure that we are at least partially scheduling music that is something you may never have heard before," said Nancy Schmidt-Brunson, the executive director of the Saint Joseph Symphony. "I can honestly say that all four of these pieces have never been played in the Missouri Theater."

Doors open at 6 p.m., followed by the concert at 7 p.m.
