Local community group gathers downtown to pick up trash

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Beautify St. Joseph hosted a cleanup event downtown to pick up as many pieces of trash as they could find.

All the volunteers at the event met at the concessions area of Coleman Hawkins Park to get supplies such as trash bags, grabbers, and safety goggles.

"It's great for the businesses downtown," Christy George, Downtown Mosaic Liaison said. "It's hard for them to get outside and cleanup while they're working in their stores. This is everyone's downtown."

Even with the cold weather, dozens of residents showed up to help with the cleanup.

Beautify St. Joseph's next cleanup event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 25th at 9 a.m. with a location to be determined.
