Andrew County artists thankful for the opportunity museum provides

SAVANNAH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Andrew County Museum's New Director, Katie Fields, is continuing the tradition of not only displaying the work of the county's past, but also its present in the annual Artists Show.

Various pieces of art by Andrew County residents fill the museum's back room.

Among the featured artists is 13-year-old Ian Miller, a resident whose multiple drawings and sculptures are on display. He discovered his talent not long ago and enjoys designing pieces with intricate details to tell stories.

Miller took the most pride in a dinosaur he made for the display.

"I'm really happy with how that turned out, because that took a while. I dropped it a couple of times. It broke," Miller said. "My grandma told us, and I thought 'that'd be fun to show off some myself'".

While the show is not judged, some students have chosen to enter a judged category, adding another layer of excitement to the event.

In addition to Miller, another artist, Laurie Sherman, loves creating and is glad to see so many other county residents taking part.

Sherman was very complimentary of other artists in the show. However, taking time to explain that it's not the level of quality in the pieces, but the story that art tells.

"I'm glad that people are still expressing themselves in whatever way they want to, which is great, because I think art gives us an outlet," Sherman said. "To some of the things we may not want to talk about, but what we can put in our art."

The Andrew County Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and is located at 202 East Duncan Drive in Savannah.
