6 candidates file to run for Missouri Senate seat

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KQTV) — Six individuals have filed for the Missouri State Senate that will be vacated by State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer after this term.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State's website, there are four Republicans vying for the State Senate seat and two Democrats.

The Republican primary race will feature Missouri Representative Brenda Shields (R-Buchanan), MO Rep. Sean Pouche (R-Buchanan/Platte County), MO Rep. Mike Jones (R-Platte) and St. Joseph business owner Ryan Gerster.

On the Democratic side, Shereka Barnes (Kansas City, Mo.) and Pam May (St. Joseph, Mo.) will face off in the August primary.

The Missouri primary race is set for Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Sen. Luetkemeyer has reached his term limits at the end of this term.
