New Altec, MoWest partnership aims to open doors for workers and families
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Altec and Missouri Western State University celebrated their partnership with a signing ceremony Friday.
MoWest President Elizabeth Kennedy said creating stronger educational opportunities for the community has been a long-time goal, especially when it comes to expanding partnerships and opening new pathways for students.
"The partnership with Altec is another extension of a very good and deep relationship that we have with them,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy explained how the partnership will give Altec employees and even their families—more chances to start or continue their education while also growing in their careers.
She also pointed out how only about 23% of the population has some level of college education, which makes opportunities like this even more important.
“To be able to help with their educational goals so that can help them grow in their careers and become more prosperous, add to our community’s prosperous which has always been a dream of mine,” Kennedy said.
Mike Moore, principal engineering manager at Altec, said this new partnership is a big win for employees and their families, giving them access to a great discount at MoWest.
He explained how having a strong, well-trained workforce is essential—not just for Altec, but for businesses across the area.
“From my perspective, it all happened fairly quickly. I first learned about it from my spot on the school board where the school district also joined in on this program,” Moore said.
He explained how MoWest is a valuable asset to the St. Joseph community and the school plays a key role in preparing students who can step in and help local businesses keep doing great work.
“From the business aspect and the money aspect you are talking about being able to earn more money, get promotions and overall have an improved quality of life,” Moore said.
He wrapped up by talking about how under President Kennedy’s leadership, MoWest has shown a real commitment to connecting with St. Joseph—its families and businesses and focused on what they need.
