ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The 20-year-old Skidmore, Mo. man charged with two counts of first-degree murder stemming from an incident in April is facing more charges after allegedly trying to escape jail.

According to court documents, Keevin J. Maupin has now been charged with first-degree assault, attempted escape from confinement by striking a person and damage to the jail or jail property. These three felonies are added on to the charges Maupin is already facing.

Maupin was charged with two felony counts of first-degree murder and two felony counts of armed criminal action stemming from an incident on April 19 just north of Skidmore.

Authorities said Maupin allegedly killed two women— 32-year-old Liberty Moore and 58-year-old Karen Babcock— inside a house a few miles north of Skidmore.

Maupin will be back in court at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 18, in the Division 1 Courtroom at the Nodaway County Courthouse.
