St. Joseph school district saves $6.2 million through staff reductions by attrition

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV)-- The St. Joseph School District has topped $6 million in savings with the retirement or resignations of 83 staff members across the district.

According to data presented during Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, the district has saved $6,137,200 as of May 20, 2026. 

Director of Human Resources Mark Korell shared the numbers with the board.

The biggest area is from retirements or resignations of teachers. As of May 20, 56 teachers have left the district, totaling $3,920,000. 56 teachers are approximately 5.97% of the district's teaching staff. 

Korell added that all three administrative assistant positions were located in the Noyes building, accounting for 4% of all administrative assistants in the district.
