ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- A student-led organization organized a trash pick-up project Thursday in Downtown St. Joseph to help improve the area.

At their most recent meeting, the Student Voice Alliance discussed their goal to clean up St. Joseph's parks, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing community spaces.

The organization and volunteers gathered at Western Gateway Park to pick up litter, showing their focus on improving the downtown area.

"Whenever we did our meetings downtown, we had a talk about what we wanted to do and how we wanted to make the city better," Student Voice Alliance chair Jacey Jackson said. "We want the downtown area better for everybody."

The Student Voice Alliance includes students from all public and private St. Joseph high schools.

The Student Voice Alliance joins other city organizations working to uplift and beautify the downtown area.

"Downtown has really progressed amazingly," City Business Liaison Heidi Eggers said. "A lot of the community is very involved with getting our downtown beautified. Making it a place where people want to come and be."

The next Student Voice Alliance meeting is set for sometime in July.
