Former Mustangs infielder signs deal with New York Mets

NEW YORK (KQTV) -- A former St. Joseph Mustangs infielder is getting his chance with a Major League Baseball team.

Nebraska shortstop Dylan Carey signed a free agent deal with the New York Mets following the Major League Baseball draft. Carey will have the chance to work his way through the Met's farm system.

The shortstop was the Mustangs' MVP in 2022.

Carey won the Brooks Wallace Award for the 2026 season. The award is given to the best shortstop in the country. The Cornhuskers' shortstop was also the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
