Final Four qualifiers headline 2027 Winter High School Basketball showcase

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Sports Commission New Year's Winter High School Basketball Showcase will feature six teams that made it to the Final Four in 2026.

The 2027 showcase will have eight games on Saturday, Jan. 2 at Civic Arena in downtown St. Joseph.

“Scheduling for this event was a bit tricky this year due to the way the calendar fell,” said Brett Esely, Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission.  “In a perfect world, we always want this event to be a two day schedule as there is definite interest. However, with high school scheduling norms, not wanting to play on New Year’s Day and trying to avoid competition on Sunday, we focused on a one day event which will feature some highly intriguing contests."

There are nine schools taking part in the one-day high school basketball showcase.

Here is the schedule for Saturday, Jan. 2:

10 am- St. Joseph Christian vs. North Platte (G)

11:30 am- St. Joseph Christian vs. North Platte (B)

1 pm- Bishop LeBlond vs. Doniphan West (Kan.) (G)

2:30 pm- Bishop LeBlond vs. Doniphan West (Kan.) (B)

4 pm- Benton vs. Norris (Neb.) (G)

5:30 pm- Norris (Neb.) vs Olathe North (Kan.) (B)

7 pm- Central vs. Atchison (Kan.) (G)

8:30 pm- Central vs Atchison (Kan.) (B)

The North Platte boys went 27-5 and finished third in Class 3 in 2025-26.

The Benton girls made their third consecutive Class 4 Final Four appearance in 2025-26.

The Norris (Neb.) girls basketball team went 23-4 and finished third in Class B and the Norris boys basketball team took home third in Class B.

Olathe North won the Kansas 6A State Championship in 2025-26.

The Atchison Phoenix boys had a 26-2 season in 2025-26 and went to the Kansas 4A State Final Four.

Ticket information will be released in late fall in which all sales will be facilitated online and through the Civic Arena Box Office.
