Get to know: Tina Goodrick, Republican Primary Candidate for Missouri Representative District 11
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Tina Goodrick is a mother, proud longtime resident of St. Joseph, avid President Donald Trump supporter and hopes to be the next District 11 representative in the Missouri House of Representatives in Jefferson City.
Goodrick will tell you she isn't a stranger to the political trail. Although she was not successful in previous campaigns, she said the issues Missourians in her district face and their support are what are leading her to run again.
"A lot of people from town would come and fly through Kansas City International Airport when I was a TSA officer. And they're like, 'We need you in office. Please run again,'" Goodrick said of encounters with supporters. "I thought, you know, I think I'm over the whole losing thing. I can do this. I have so much experience, and I have so much to share, and they're right. I need to protect my hometown and be there for everybody."
Some of her campaign points are educational freedom, more specifically giving parents more options in education for their child's needs. She also looks to fight for economic freedom, working to cut government red tape in how she believes is affecting small businesses.
"I think that we see so much distrust here in Missouri for elected officials. They don't feel like they're listened to at all, and I plan to change that," Goodrick shared. "You know, people know me when I go to their doors. They see it in my eyes. They can tell that. I mean what I say, and I'm here for everyone. It doesn't matter who you are.
Goodrick is also a proud gun owner; she would like to fight for the Second Amendment if she were to make it to Jefferson City. She would also make sure she's fighting back against opposition that she believes would affect a Missourian's right to carry.
"That's one thing that I know as a legislator, when you go in to work, you have to sit down and talk to the other party, have discussions with them and get them to understand why they need to vote for a certain thing," Goodrick told KQ2. "You have to get their vote to get something good passed. And if they feel heard, which I'm willing to listen to them as well. We can agree on some people's issues. There, of course, are going to be issues that won't work for both."
Goodrick will be up against fellow St. Joseph resident Taylor Crouse in the Missouri House District 11 primary on Aug. 4.
