St. Joseph Sports Commission announces field for annual Pony Express HS Volleyball Preview

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- As St. Joseph will be the home for the 2026 Missouri State High School Girls Volleyball Championships this fall, the St. Joseph Sports Commission has announced the 2nd annual Pony Express Girls State High School Volleyball Preview Tournament.

The two-day tournament will feature 21 Missouri high school volleyball programs including several from northwest Missouri.

“We always talk about capitalizing on our fit/niche and then building quality events accordingly in which we’ve been fortunate to host multiple high level championship volleyball events here in St. Joseph on both the high school and college level," said Brett Esely, the Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission. "This event, built as a high school preview event was very well received last year in which we’ve grown the field this year and will be an excellent, unique way to start to the high school volleyball season in St. Joseph” stated Brett Esely, Executive Director of the St. Joseph Sports Commission."

The northwest Missouri teams include Benton, Bishop LeBlond, Cameron, Central, Maryville, Rock Port and Savannah.

The field includes four 2025 state Final Four teams: Northland Christian (C1 3rd Place), Oak Grove (C3 2nd Place), Saxony Lutheran (C3 4th Place) and Hannibal (C4 3rd Place).

2025 state quarterfinal teams include Fatima (C2), Lafayette County (C2) and Sullivan (C3). The field also features district champions Rock Port (C1), Adrian (C2) and Savannah (C3).

The two-day event starts at 1 pm on Friday, Aug. 28 at Civic Arena.
