ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- An ongoing investigation into a string of violent crimes involving minors led to one arrest and the recovery of five firearms on Saturday, according to the St. Joseph Police Department.

Officers located a known juvenile with an active felony warrant in the 2500 block of Mitchell Avenue just after midnight on August 22.

The individual, who authorities say was a "person of interest" in multiple ongoing violent crime incidents, was observed entering a residence where approximately 15 other people were gathered.

Following the sighting, law enforcement secured a search warrant for the property.

During the execution of that warrant, officers took the wanted juvenile into custody without further incident.

While only one individual was arrested on the felony warrant, the investigation led into further actions, where police confirmed that 14 other juveniles present inside the residence were issued juvenile referrals.

Parents and guardians of those minors were contacted by authorities.

Officers also seized five firearms from the home.

The incident remains under active investigation, and authorities say that additional information will be released as it becomes appropriate.
