MSHP reports 8 traffic fatalities over Labor Day holiday counting period

MISSOURI (KQTV) -- The Missouri State Highway Patrol released preliminary statistics for the 2026 Labor Day counting period.

The period began at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4 and continued through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7.

MSHP said eight people died and 82 were injured in 213 traffic crashed during ther 2026 Labor Day holiday counting period.

Additionally MSHP recorded 123 driving while intoxicated infractions.

For boating, there were nine crashes, one injury and five boating while intoxicated incidents. There were no fatalities or drownings.

MSHP said during the 2025 counting period, the Patrol investigated 252 traffic crashes involving four fatalities and 123 injuries. Statewide, six people died and 423 were injured in 931 vehicle crashed in 2025.

Nine boating crashes were investigated throughout Missouri in 2025.

MSHP said the fatality statistics listed above could change if late deaths occur, or if other departments report fatal traffic crashes at a later date.
