ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The City of St. Joseph Health Department has announced that it has signed a contract with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for the 2027 federal fiscal year.

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, better known as WIC, provides nutrition assistance to pregnant women, new mothers and children up to age five who meet eligibility requirements based on nutritional risk.

Through WIC, eligible women and children can receive supplemental food packages that include foods high in protein, iron, calcium and vitamins A and C.

These foods may include milk and cheese, eggs, whole-grain bread products and hot and cold cereals.

The program also encourages breastfeeding and offers breastfeeding support, along with baby foods and infant cereals.

Women who cannot or choose not to breastfeed may receive supplemental iron-fortified infant formula.

WIC services in Buchanan County are provided through the City of St. Joseph Health Department.

Anyone interested in applying for WIC or learning more about the program can call the City of St. Joseph Health Department at 816-271-4723.

WIC clinics are available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 904 S. 10th St.
