DONIPHAN COUNTY, Kan. (KQTV) -- Lisa Phillips, a survivor of sexual abuse by Jeffrey Epstein, has endorsed Don Coover for Congress in Kansas' Second District, citing the need for stronger accountability for Epstein and other sexual predators.

Phillips said she was motivated by a desire to see elected leaders take action on behalf of survivors.

"Washington politicians, like Congressman Derek Schmidt have failed survivors of sexual assault, like myself and other Epstein survivors. When I, and other survivors, attended the February hearing of Pam Bondi in front of the Judiciary Committee, I was disheartened when Congressman Schmidt ignored us and did nothing to hold Bondi accountable," Phillips said.

Coover, a West Point graduate and Army veteran who served more than a decade including as a pilot with an aviation intelligence unit in Korea, and is vying for the democratic seat, said he was inspired by Phillips' advocacy.

“I am inspired by Lisa’s efforts to fight for justice for Epstein survivors. Lisa has shown more courage than half of Congress, and she needs more allies in Washington. It is indicative of the corruption and singular focus of re-election at any cost that causes someone like Derek Schmidt to stand tall for DC insiders and perpetrators and shrink for the Epstein survivors. I do not care which D.C. insiders I upset in Washington, in Congress, I will work to hold the perpetrators accountable," Coover said.

Kansas' Second District spans eastern Kansas, including Topeka, Kansas City, and Pittsburg, along with extensive rural agricultural communities.
