ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Daily's Premium Meats hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of its expanded bacon processing facility.

In May 2025, Daily’s Premium Meats broke ground on the expansion, with Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe attending the ceremony.

The $100 million project expands production capabilities, supports future growth and strengthens the company's ability to meet increasing demand for premium bacon products.

Tyler Shuman, Daily's Premium Meats site general manager, said the company decided to expand the facility because of the supply capability of its owners.

"Currently, a lot of the bellies are being sold outside the market," he said. "It was a strategic decision to keep the bellies in-house within our own group of companies."

The facility has expanded to 111,000 square feet, which is double the size of the previous facility.

"That’s gonna add about 60 million pounds of capacity annually to the site. We’re also adding the capability to do bacon bits, and it gives us a great opportunity to use the slices that don’t meet our expectations for number one bacon," Shuman said.

The expansion introduces new technology to the facility, including an advanced in-line slicing technology designed to improve efficiency and increase yields, new belly sizing and docking systems, enhanced quality assurance and production monitoring capabilities and more.

"We’re also adding robotics, automation and things that will help us to drive our costs down while adding higher-quality jobs to the area," Shuman said.

The expansion will add approximately 150 new jobs in St. Joseph when fully operational.

A lot of those jobs are higher-skill jobs," Shuman said. "Where they're running robotics, automation and it’s going to make for great career opportunities."

Shuman says every time Daily's Premium Meats makes an investment, the company is committed to a long-term path in the area.

"For us, it’s a commitment to St. Joe and say, 'Hey, we’re here for the long term, and we’re excited to expand and create more opportunity for everyone'."

The St. Joseph facility is one of the three Daily's Premium Meats bacon processing facilities in the United States.
