CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Mo. (KQTV) -- The Christian County Sheriff's Office identified the two deputies killed in the line of duty Monday and Tuesday after a traffic stop south of Highlandville, Missouri, ended in a manhunt near Reeds Spring, Missouri.

Deputy Gabriel Ramirez, 30, and Deputy Michael Hislope, 40, are being honored for their service during the events.

Ramirez joined the Christian County Sheriff's Office on March 14, 2025.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office said:

"Though his time with us was brief, his commitment to serving others and protecting this community was clear from the very beginning."

Hislope joined the Sheriff's Office on October 28, 2019.

"He was a dedicated deputy, a trusted colleague, and a valued member of our sheriff's office family."

Sheriff Brad Cole said both Ramirez and Hislope answered the call to serve, putting the safety of others before their own.

Both Ramirez and Hislope served in the Army as well.

"We ask our community to keep their families, friends, and fellow deputies in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time," the post continued.

Richard Dean Bird, 45, was killed after he opened fire on deputies as they tried to arrest him. Deputies returned fire after Bird shot at them.
