KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KQTV) -- A man from Mexico was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday for illegally re-entering the U.S. after being removed multiple times.

Victor Rubio-Trejo, 48, was charged in a one-count indictment with illegal reentry.

Rubio-Trejo was arrested by the St. Joseph Police Department on April 10. The next day, he was identified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and transferred into ICE's custody. He was originally charged through a criminal complaint on April 27.

ICE determined Rubio-Trejo has been removed from the U.S. on five separate occasions and has a prior felony conviction for illegal reentry.

The charges in the criminal complaint and indictment are accusations and not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting the charges must be presented to a federal trial jury, whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Nicholas P. Heberle. It was investigated by ICE with assistance from SJPD.
