SJPD: Crime down 6% in April from March

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- The St. Joseph Police Department shared its April 2026 crime statistics, noting that total crime has decreased by 6% compared to March.

In the monthly statistics, SJPD shared that violent crime is down 17%, simple assault is down 9% and that there were no robberies reported in April.

While the decrease in the aforementioned acts is a win for the department, there were also some increases.

The department noted a 26% increase in shoplifting and a 19% increase in DWIs.

Drug offenses have also increased to 31%. The department said it is continuing to strive to get dangerous drugs off St. Joseph streets.
