Mo. State Senate District 34 Candidate Nathan Willett stops in St. Joseph
(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) On Thursday evening, current Kansas City Councilman and Republican Candidate for Missouri State Senate District 34, Nathan Willett spoke at an event hosted by the St. Joseph Firefighters IAFF Local 77 and the Fraternal Order of Police's Lodge #3.
Willett's self-described commitment to first responders, evident during his time as a city councilman for Kansas City, is one of the most significant aspects he hopes to bring to Jefferson City, along with experience as student body president at the University of Missouri in the late 2010s, which he described as one of the hardest eras for the college.
While serving his constituents in the north end of Kansas City, he also works as a high school math teacher, in addition to his experience as the Platte County GOP Vice Chairman.
Support from first responders, as he intends to support them, is something that means a lot to Willett, especially as he begins campaigning well before the August 2026 primaries.
"Having the backing of St. Joe's first responders is second to none, to be quite honest with you, and I'm proud to have an event here," Willet said. "To meet as many folks as possible. But campaigns are about connecting with folks on the issues that matter most to them."
Willett also takes pride in being a part of the Northwest Missouri community for some time.
"In Kansas City, you have three counties, and I represent the Northland, and Jackson County takes many of our tax dollars," Willett shared. "So just fighting back for the Northland, which is typically left out of the equation, and I want to take that same attitude to the state senate."
Willett is proud to hit the trail early; he hopes it helps make a lasting impression on voters into next year.
"It's my job to make sure I come to the voters. The voters shouldn't be coming to me. Our campaign team has established a lot of great endorsed groups and St. Joe FOP and Fire," said Willett. "(I'm) proud and blessed to have their support, but that also means that they expect to have a candidate who's going to run a hard race, and that's what we plan to do."
