Homestead Property Tax Credit up for vote on April Ballot

Buchanan County, Mo. Website

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo (KQTV) -- A proposed property tax is up for vote on Tuesday's election.

If approved, a homestead property tax credit program will be available for eligible homeowners in Buchanan County.

If the home owner's taxes were to increase past a certain limit, the credit will reduce their tax bill.

The tax only applies to a home owner if they are a resident in Missouri, own a home, are responsible for paying property taxes, and using a home as a primary residence.

Properties that are not eligible for the tax credit would be rental, commercial, agricultural, or personal property, such as vehicles.

Buchanan county believes the credit would begin in 2027, if passed.
