Overnight traffic delays on I-29 to begin April 15

File

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Motorists are told to expect delays as southbound Interstate 29 near the Gene Field Road Bridge will be narrowed to one lane overnight beginning Wednesday, April 15.

Crews from Clarkson Construction Company, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, will place girders on the Gene Field Road Bridge.

The southbound lane will be narrowed from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The contractor, in coordination with local law enforcement, will use rolling closures to stop traffic for up to 15 minutes between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Thursday morning.

A 10.6-foot width restriction will be in place.

Crews are also scheduled to place the girders over the northbound lanes overnight on Tuesday, April 28 and Wednesday, April 29.

The replacement project aims to widen the bridge and replace its driving surface, as well as add pedestrian sidewalks to the north and south sides of the bridge.

MoDOT said the project is still scheduled to be completed by July 2026.
