Maryville girls soccer takes down Bishop LeBlond to win Class 2 District 8 Championship and advance to state

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (KQTV) -- Maryville High School Girls' Soccer's high-flying offense sent its team to state Wednesday evening with a 3-0 defeat of Bishop LeBlond in the Class 2 District 8 Championship at Benton High School.

In the first half, Maryville freshman Brinslee Weldon kicked it in, and it ricocheted off the group in front of the goal to go in.

During the second half, Spoofhound sophomore Jade Price made it 2-0 against the Golden Eagles. At this point in the game, Spoofhounds Girls Soccer head coach Stephanie Ingram felt good about her team's chances of winning and advancing.

"I never like being 1-0. I mean, I feel confident in our team, and all of our players, but you definitely like a little security blanket," Ingram said post-game.

Later, senior Payton Kurz had a perfect corner kick in the second half that went untouched as it bent in the air and into the goal, making it 3-0.

This is the program's two of the last three district championships, and it's 11th out of the last 14.

Maryville girls soccer improves to 12-4-1 on the season and advances to the Class 2 State Quarterfinals on May 30th. The Spoofhounds will face the winner of the Class 2 District 7 Tournament. The semifinals of that tournament will be played on Thursday, May 21st with Pleasant Hill taking on Barstow and Harrisonville facing Oak Grove.
